Renowned sculptor Alexander Phimster Proctor was commissioned to create two statues for Denver's Civic Center: the 1920 "Broncho Buster" and the 1922 "On The War Trail."
The bronze cowboy and horse "Broncho Buster" statue was presented to the city by John Kernan Mullen in 1920. Proctor used Slim Ridings as the model for Broncho Buster. When Slim landed in jail for horse rustling, Proctor put up the bail to complete the modeling job.
